“Everybody can do something,” Montecito Bank & Trust founding member and Chairman Michael Towbes became famous for saying. While he spoke these words to encourage his colleagues to use their time, treasure or talent to help organizations they are passionate about, Towbes also modeled this sentiment throughout his life.

From serving his country in the Navy during the Korean War, to volunteering and chairing numerous nonprofit boards and granting more than $25 million to more than 400 organizations on the Central Coast through his Towbes Foundation, Towbes’ desire to help others led him to create a lasting legacy that continues to this day, almost 10 years after his passing in April 2017.

Towbes’ spirit of service was embedded into the culture of Montecito Bank & Trust from the beginning, back in 1975 when he cofounded the bank, originally named Bank of Montecito. Elected as CEO in 1982, Towbes became the sole shareholder in 1983 and eventually served as Chairman from the 1990s until 2017.

During his tenure, he established impactful programs, including Community Dividends and Anniversary Grants, donating millions of dollars to help local nonprofits in their invaluable work supporting those in need and strengthening communities.

“Giving back has always been part of who we are at MB&T. Michael Towbes founded the bank with a vision to make the communities we serve better places to live and work, and more than 50 years later, that still guides us,” said Chairman and CEO Janet Garufis. “We believe being a community bank means investing in the people and organizations doing the important work to help our communities grow and thrive.”

Towbes wanted MB&T associates to have the opportunity to support the organizations that mattered most to them. In 1990, he began the annual tradition of celebrating the bank’s anniversary by encouraging associates to nominate and select 10 nonprofits to receive Anniversary Grants in support of their missions. Since its inception, the program has provided more than $700,000 to over 180 unique nonprofits.

In 2003, Towbes invited 100 local nonprofits to join him for lunch on the Monday before Thanksgiving. He surprised each with a check, totaling $1 million, and announced the launch of MB&T’s Community Dividends program. Today, the annual celebration brings together local nonprofits and provides more than $1 million each year in support to community organizations focused on enriching Arts & Culture, Health & Medical, Social Services, and Youth & Education. As of November 2026, the program has provided more than $25 million to over 500 nonprofits throughout Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

After Towbes’ passing in 2017, the bank added the Michael Towbes Community Impact Dividend to the annual Community Dividends celebration in his honor, providing significant additional funding to organizations delivering critical and sustainable services to some of our community’s most vulnerable residents. Since its inception in 2019, the Community Impact Dividend has awarded $1.325 million to 18 organizations, including last year’s recipients, the Santa Barbara Foundation and Ventura County Community Foundation.

Beyond these giving programs, the bank supports hundreds of community and business events through sponsorships, matches associates’ and directors’ charitable giving and recognizes their volunteer service with additional donations to the organization of their choice.

Carrying on the legacy of Towbes, MB&T’s associates give back to their communities year after year. Last year, they volunteered over 7,900 hours, with 43 associates serving on nonprofit boards and reaching over 2,250 students through their financial literacy programs. Partnering with schools and nonprofits through programs like REACH, PEAC and Fun in the Sun, MB&T’s associates educate community youth about finances, empowering them with essential tools to build successful financial futures.

“We know we can do more together,” said Garufis. “No single organization can meet every need, but we all have something to contribute. For us, that might be funding, expertise, relationships or simply showing up when we’re needed. When we bring those strengths together, we can make a much greater impact.”

Towbes’ vision to create a community bank dedicated to giving back continues to serve hundreds of nonprofits from Santa Maria to Westlake Village. The seeds he planted more than 50 years ago have bloomed into a mighty force for good in the world.

Towbes’ enduring commitment to improving and uplifting the lives of so many lives on through MB&T’s support of nonprofits focusing on Arts and Culture, Youth and Education, Social Services, and Health and Medical Services. Local nonprofits can apply for Community Dividends, and 188 nonprofits received support last year through just that one program.

As communities’ needs change, MB&T will continue to develop solutions and resources to address essential issues including affordable housing, mental wellness and food access, while sharing expertise and educating communities about financial education, fraud prevention and cybersecurity.

Guided by their founder’s example to provide innovative, lifechanging programs, MB&T’s associates stand strong in their efforts to make the communities they serve better places to live and work.

For more than 25 years, Southern California Reproductive Center (SCRC) has been helping patients build families through advanced fertility care grounded in medical expertise, individualized treatment and a physician-led approach. Founded in 2000 by reproductive endocrinologists Dr. Mark Surrey and Dr. Hal Danzer, SCRC has grown from a single Beverly Hills practice into one of the most established fertility practices in the United States, now serving communities throughout Southern California.

In August 2026, SCRC reached another milestone with the opening of a new satellite location in Westlake Village. Located within CURE Medical at the Center for Health & Wellbeing at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, the new location brings SCRC’s reproductive care closer to patients in the Conejo Valley and surrounding communities.

The expansion reflects a simple idea that has remained central to SCRC since its founding: Fertility care should be both highly specialized and accessible to the people who need it.

“This is an exciting moment for our practice and for the patients we serve,” said Dr. Mark Surrey, Co-Founder of SCRC. “Expanding to Westlake Village reflects our ongoing commitment to making world-class fertility care more accessible across Southern California. We are proud to grow from a foundation of physician-led values that have guided this practice from the beginning.”

Bringing Care to the Conejo Valley

Fertility treatment often involves frequent appointments for bloodwork, ultrasounds and other monitoring. While advanced treatment may be concentrated at a specialized fertility center, the logistical demands of traveling back and forth can add another layer of stress to an already emotional process.

SCRC’s Westlake Village location is designed to address that challenge. It will serve as a central monitoring point for SCRC patients from Santa Barbara and Beverly Hills, allowing them to complete bloodwork and ultrasound monitoring closer to home during treatment cycles. New patients can also begin their care at the Westlake Village location, with consultations available either in person or virtually.

The new location is part of a broader Southern California network that includes SCRC offices in Beverly Hills, Santa Barbara, Pasadena and Ventura. Together, these locations allow patients to receive local monitoring while remaining connected to the same physician group and SCRC’s established laboratory and clinical infrastructure.

“We built this practice one patient at a time, and that approach has never changed,” said Dr. Hal Danzer, Co-Founder of SCRC. “Our Westlake Village location is a reflection of where we are headed, a physician-led practice continuing to grow in a way that puts patients first. We’re excited to bring our care closer to communities that have long needed it.”

The Westlake Village location is situated within CURE Medical at the Center for Health & Wellbeing at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, a setting focused on individualized medical and wellness experiences. SCRC’s presence there extends the practice’s physician-led reproductive care into one of the region’s premier wellness destinations.

A Personalized Approach to Fertility Treatment

Although technology has transformed reproductive medicine, SCRC believes that successful fertility care starts with understanding the individual patient.

“Fertility care is not one-size-fits-all, and it shouldn’t be treated that way,” is a principle that guides the practice. Two patients may have the same diagnosis on paper but require very different approaches based on their biology, medical history and personal goals.

SCRC’s physicians work with patients to develop individualized treatment plans and explain the reasoning behind those recommendations. The goal is for patients to understand their options and make informed decisions rather than simply follow a predetermined protocol.

That philosophy is reflected in the practice’s physician-owned structure. SCRC was founded by physicians and remains physician-owned today. Its medical team includes Dr. Mark Surrey, Dr. Hal Danzer, Dr. Carolyn Alexander, Dr. Susan Maxwell and Dr. Diana Chavkin, all reproductive medicine specialists committed to individualized patient care.

The physicians also hold clinical faculty appointments at UCLA and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, bringing academic and clinical experience to their work.

Comprehensive Reproductive Services Under One Practice

SCRC offers a broad range of fertility services designed to meet patients at different stages of their reproductive journeys. These include in vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI), egg freezing and fertility preservation, donor egg treatment and other forms of third-party reproduction, including gestational surrogacy.

The practice also provides male fertility evaluation and treatment, diagnostic fertility testing, genetic testing and preimplantation genetic testing, as well as advanced reproductive and minimally invasive surgery.

For LGBTQ+ individuals and couples, SCRC offers family-building options including IVF, reciprocal IVF, donor gametes and surrogacy. The practice also works with single parents by choice and intended parents pursuing donor or gestational-carrier arrangements.

Patients may come to SCRC for many different reasons, including unexplained infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, tubal factor infertility, endometriosis, ovarian dysfunction, diminished ovarian reserve or male factor infertility. Others seek fertility preservation to maintain future options, including those facing medical treatments that may affect fertility.

Expertise Without the Distance

SCRC’s physicians say patients consistently value two things: the practice’s level of expertise and the personal nature of its care.

Patients are supported by care coordinators who understand their history, questions are answered in accessible language and the team strives to ensure that patients feel known rather than processed through a system.

That emphasis on continuity extends to SCRC’s Beverly Hills flagship location, which houses the practice’s own assisted reproductive technology (ART) laboratory. Keeping embryology and patient care under the same roof allows the clinical and laboratory teams to communicate directly about each case.

The laboratory, combined with SCRC’s depth of experience in reproductive medicine, provides an important foundation for the practice’s IVF and related services. SCRC’s physicians have practiced through decades of advances in reproductive medicine while continuing to invest in new technologies and treatment approaches.

Looking Ahead

As SCRC enters its next chapter, the Westlake Village expansion represents both growth and a continuation of the practice’s original mission.

The goal is not simply to add another location, but to make specialized fertility care more accessible while preserving the physician-led, individualized approach that has defined SCRC since 2000.

For patients throughout the Conejo Valley, Santa Barbara, Ventura and greater Southern California, the new Westlake Village location offers another point of access to a fertility practice with more than two decades of experience.

At its core, SCRC’s message remains straightforward: Every patient deserves the opportunity to understand their fertility options and pursue the path to family building that is right for them.

Nectar of the Dogs

Simi Valley’s first and only wine tasting room is open Wednesday-Sunday, pouring award-winning handcrafted California wine.

791 Chambers Ln Unit 130, Simi Valley, CA 93065
Tel: (805) 624-7101 | nectarofthedogs.com

Nectar of the Dogs Wine (NOTDW) is more than a tasting room; it’s a destination built around the simple idea that great wine is better when it’s shared, and that every bottle can help make a difference.

With handcrafted California wines, a lively calendar of events and a mission to support dog rescue, NOTDW has created a space in Simi Valley where guests can sip, socialize and celebrate while giving back to a cause close to the brand’s heart.

More Than a Tasting Room

Nectar of the Dogs Wine was born from a passion for wine and a commitment to helping dogs in need. The company’s mission goes beyond producing quality wine; a portion of bottle sales supports local nonprofit rescue Outta the Cage, in addition to other local rescues.

That spirit of giving is part of what makes the brand unique. The dog-inspired identity is playful and welcoming, but the mission behind it is meaningful: bring people together, create memorable experiences and use the business as a vehicle to give back.

“At its core and since the beginning, Nectar of the Dogs Wine was inspired by the love of the rescue dogs that changed our lives, and our love of wine,” said Founder Melanie Garibay.

Giving back is only part of the story. Garibay also envisioned NOTDW as a place where people could gather and feel at home. Since opening its tasting room in 2023, the response from the local community has helped fuel the company’s growth.

“Opening the tasting room was a labor of love, and the overwhelming support from the community has made it all worth the hard work and effort,” says Garibay.

That sense of welcome is evident in the dog-friendly tasting room’s personality. Dog lovers, wine enthusiasts, music fans and neighbors can all find a reason to stop by and stay awhile.

Crafted to be Shared

At the heart of Nectar of the Dogs Wine is small-production, handcrafted wine.

The brand’s portfolio showcases a diverse collection of wines, from crisp, refreshing whites and rosés to rich reds and distinctive blends. Vineyard sources span some of California’s celebrated growing regions, including Napa Valley, Atlas Peak, Paso Robles and Lodi, allowing the winemaking team to explore different varietals, styles and expressions while maintaining a commitment to quality.

Guests can experience the wines through tasting flights, glasses or bottles, making the tasting room an easy place to discover something new whether you’re a longtime wine enthusiast or simply looking for a fun place to spend an afternoon or evening.

Sip, Stay & Celebrate

If wine is at the heart of Nectar of the Dogs Wine, community is its soul.

The Simi Valley tasting room has become a gathering place for live music, special events and experiences designed to bring people through the doors and give them a reason to stay awhile. The calendar features live performances, themed nights, trivia, wine releases and other events that turn a traditional tasting room visit into something much more social.

NOTDW provides an expansive industrial-style space that makes an ideal setting for private events. The nearly 3,000-square-foot venue can be transformed to accommodate a wide range of occasions, including milestone celebrations, rehearsal gatherings, fundraisers, holiday parties and corporate events. From intimate gatherings to larger celebrations, each event is uniquely tailored to meet the guest’s creative vision.

The staff’s extensive experience in event production brings a level of expertise that helps make planning and execution seamless from start to finish. Plus, the venue’s comprehensive production package includes professional audio, video and lighting, providing everything needed to elevate events featuring live music, presentations, performances and other entertainment.

Ultimately, NOTDW is about bringing people together, with a great glass of wine in hand and a good cause at heart.

Whether you stop in for a tasting, come out to hear a local band, gather friends for a celebration or book the space for your next event, the experience is designed to be shared.

Because at Nectar of the Dogs Wine, every gathering has the potential to become something more: a great memory, a stronger community and, with every bottle, a little more help for dogs in need.

Services: Custom Sofa & Sectional Manufacturing, Full-Service Interior Design (Space Planning & Concept Boards), Luxury Furniture Sales, Custom Upholstered Beds and High-End Furniture Reupholstery (Indoor & Outdoor)

What is your primary trade specialty? We deliberately bridge the gap between an interior design firm and a furniture store. Our core signature specialty is crafting fully custom, bench-made sofas, sectionals and upholstered beds manufactured locally right here in California. We allow clients to dictate the exact dimensions, configurations and cushion comforts for their space.

What qualifications, licenses or certifications do you hold? We are a highly decorated, family-owned boutique firm with over two decades of local design authority. Our design studio features a dedicated, collaborative “A-Team” of furniture specialists and professional interior designers.

How do you calculate your project estimates, and are they guaranteed? We offer completely transparent product and design packaging. For custom builds, we outline all frames, configurations and material tiers upfront. If clients utilize our TSG Interior Design team for broader home transformations, we curate custom floor plans and itemized product budgets before any orders are placed.

What does your communication process look like once a project begins? We thrive on personal collaboration, avoiding high-pressure sales environments. We make professional house calls to physically measure rooms and verify layouts. From there, we provide our clients with detailed digital vision boards and multi-option floor plans to help visualize the layout before custom fabrics are cut.

What specific warranties or satisfaction guarantees do you offer? Our core philosophy is to build heirloom-quality furniture that lasts. Because we control the manufacturing, we use top-tier materials like high-resiliency foam and premium textile collections (including Schumacher, Kravet and high-performance, kid-friendly fabrics) to protect pieces from premature sagging, wear or staining.

What is your typical booking lead time, and how can clients get started? While major full-home interior design projects scale sequentially, our custom California-crafted sofas can boast lead times as fast as three weeks. Clients can test furniture cushions or browse thousands of fabric swatches by visiting our 3,400-square-foot Thousand Oaks Showroom or calling 805.497.3222.

Hundreds of community members, business leaders and elected officials gathered at Housing Trust Fund Ventura County’s 7th Annual Compassion Campaign, raising more than $200,000 for affordable housing and breaking the organization’s fundraising records. Held May 7 at Tierra Rejada’s Walnut Grove, “The Sweetest Investment”-themed event reflected on the lasting returns that local commitment to affordable housing generates for the entire region.

During the evening’s most powerful moment, Ventura Springs residents Rosay and Jimmy Mooney shared about their housing journey. The couple formerly owned a home in Maryland before moving to California and facing housing insecurities, which led to them living in their car with a newborn.

Thanks to Project HOPE, a collaborative outreach initiative pairing law enforcement and social services to assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness, the Mooneys were able to secure housing at Ventura Springs, an affordable housing development funded in part by Housing Trust Fund VC.

“Since moving in, I feel safe,” Rosay Mooney told the audience. “Sustainability has been my word this year, because being sustainable was lost for a period of time. My child now has his own bed and room, a consistent schedule and a consistent routine.”

Senior Deputy Jason Havelka of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office who assisted the Mooneys through Project HOPE weighed in on the area’s housing issues.

“One of the biggest challenges our clients face is locating and securing available, affordable housing,” Havelka said. “Developments like the one this organization helped fund are key in creating real options for families like the Mooney family.”

Their story grounded a broader conversation about the widening gap between wages and housing costs in Ventura County. Housing Trust Fund VC CEO Linda Braunschweiger led guests through an interactive Price Is Right-style segment comparing the cost of common goods and services in 2016 versus today. According to HUD Fair Market Rent data, the average rent for a two-bedroom home in California has climbed more than 40-50% over the past decade, surpassing $3,000 per month in many markets. Annual childcare costs have nearly doubled, rising from $10,000 to $15,000 in 2016 to $20,000 to $29,000 today, according to the California Child Care Resource and Referral Network. And according to the UC Berkeley Terner Center, the cost to build a single affordable housing unit in California, which stood at roughly $265,000 to $425,000 in 2016, has since climbed to $450,000 to $700,000 or more.

“Ventura County’s future depends on whether working families can afford to live where they work,” said Braunschweiger. “When teachers, nurses, first responders, agricultural workers and service employees cannot find housing they can afford, the consequences ripple across our entire economy.”

In keeping with the evening’s theme, the event featured a dessert auction in which each item was tied to the story of a current resident living in a community funded in part by Housing Trust Fund VC. Pecan pie, chosen in honor of Rosay’s late grandmother Rosa who made it for family and community gatherings, opened the bidding. Proceeds contributed to the evening’s record-breaking total.

Guests also participated in the second annual “Paint It Forward” lending library competition. Five lending libraries were built by students in the Architecture and Product Innovation and Design Pathways program at Adolfo Camarillo High School, under the guidance of teacher and former Teacher of the Year Peter Wachtel, with support from the Rotary Clubs of Moorpark and Santa Paula. McCarthy Companies, the inaugural Paint It Forward winner in 2025, took home the award for the second consecutive year. Each library will be placed at a development supported by Housing Trust Fund VC.

The 2026 Compassion Campaign was chaired by Ken Trigueiro, Board Chair of Housing Trust Fund VC. Keystone Title Sponsors included Housing Opportunities for People Everywhere (USA HOPE), Banc of California and Larrabure Framing. Pillar Sponsors included the City of Ventura Housing Services, City National Bank, U.S. Bank, PennyMac and Montecito Bank and Trust.

Housing Trust Fund Ventura County Launched as a 501c3 nonprofit corporation in 2011, Housing Trust Fund VC is the local trusted leader in helping to increase affordable housing options throughout Ventura County by leveraging public-private partnerships to provide low-cost, flexible loans early in the housing development cycle. As of January 2026, Housing Trust Fund VC has committed to investing $52 million through its Revolving Loan Fund, creating 2,193 affordable apartments and homes for very-low, low- and middle-income employees, transitional age foster youth, veterans, farm workers and the homeless.

Some call it Mayberry, while others call it heaven on Earth. However you describe this beautiful region, one thing is for sure—living in the Conejo Valley comes with a signature style cherished by all who call it home.

In this month’s style-themed issue of Conejo Valley Lifestyle, we showcase some of the many things we love about living here that make our community so unique and wonderful. Kicking off the editorial lineup is our feature article about home services providers. Every one of the 10 businesses included in the feature represents the best in their field, and we wholeheartedly recommend consulting with any of them when it comes to handling any home-related needs, from remodeling to decorating and everything in between.

As feathering our nests reflects the values we hold dear, so does caring for each other, something this community makes a top priority. This month, as we do in every issue, we share about local nonprofits that exist to help in some way. MANDO is a prime example. Created to mentor youth at risk, MANDO’s dedicated staff take pride in guiding young adults to live their best lives.

You’ll also read about the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, taking place this month and serving as a comfort and support to those affected by cancer; and the Soroptimists’ Margarita Mix Off, a fundraiser to benefit the organization’s many programs to boost opportunities for females in need. We also highlight Housing Trust Fund Ventura County’s recent event, where the community rallied together to break fundraising records and promote affordable housing for all.

Embracing the spirit of service as is the style in this community is Smiles 4 Life’s Pantea Choroomi, who shares her story of achieving the American dream and settling in the Conejo Valley to raise her family and run a dental practice to serve others—now that’s something to smile about, we think you’ll agree. Here’s to community style!

“I believe small acts of kindness can make someone’s day a little brighter. Together, we can create lasting ripples of joy.” — Bella

Article by Tracy Marcynzsyn,  Photography Provided

Mixing creativity, compassion and initiative, local teen Isabella Gertz concocted a recipe to serve up joy to families in need.

After visiting a local food bank, the 16-year-old Agoura High School junior had a lightbulb moment that sparked her into action.

“I realized that while families often receive basic necessities, birthdays and celebrations are frequently overlooked,” shares Isabella. Inspired to make a difference, she reached out to local grocery stores and bakeries to request undecorated cakes that she could customize and donate to help others celebrate birthdays and special events.

With support from Gelson’s, Sprouts and Vons, Isabella teamed up with a group of friends to create unique and beautifully decorated cakes to bring smiles to others.

“We decorated a cake with an axolotl for a 5-year-old’s birthday and got a video of them receiving the cake. Their reaction was incredibly sweet and reminded me exactly why I do this,” says Isabella, who founded a nonprofit called Bella’s Bakes to continue her mission.

“My goal is to expand to reach more communities in Southern California,” says Isabella. Advertising her services through flyers, word of mouth and on Instagram, Isabella works with Manna Conejo Valley Food Bank to deliver the decorated cakes to the lucky recipients.

As her older brother prepares to attend Cornell University in the fall, Isabella contemplates her own college plans, noting she’s thinking of staying closer to home and continuing to brighten up lives with Bella’s Bakes. For the Conejo Valley community, that’s something to celebrate!

Learn more at BellasBakes.org and on Instagram at @_bellas.bakes_.

Isabella’s love of culinary creations began at a young age in the kitchen with her mother.

“I started baking at 5 years old. My mentor that created my passion is my mom, who taught me how to bake when I was little,” explains Isabella, adding that the whole family got involved. “My dad and brother were forced to try my creations, too.”

Isabella studied at the Culinary Institute of America in New York and credits her Girl Scout instructors’ guidance and support with helping her grow and develop her skills. She is pursuing the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award with Bella’s Bakes and her Bake It Forward and Design with Dignity programs, where others can contribute to the cause by donating funds online at BellasBakes.org.

The ambitious, accomplished teen balances her baking endeavors with schoolwork, the tennis team and extracurriculars, including the Animal Welfare Club and the Women in Medicine Club, as well as volunteering at Los Robles Hospital.

Oaks Christian School

31749 La Tienda Road Westlake Village, CA 91362
Tel: 818.575.9900 | oakschristian.org

Oaks Christian School begins the next chapter of the school’s illustrious history with the start of the 2026-27 school year with its newest grades TK-3. The addition of these grades makes the school a full TK-12 grade, college-preparatory, day and boarding school.

The new elementary grades will feature core subjects in English, math, science, history and Bible as well as exploratory classes in music, American Sign Language, art, physical education and STEM. The lower elementary campus is located at 975 Evenstar Ave in Westlake Village.

Established in 2000 with an inaugural class of just 73 students, this fall over 1,700 students in Grades TK-12 will proudly call themselves OCS Lions!

The trajectory and growth of the school in a short time has been nothing short of phenomenal. In 2002-2004, the school established itself as an athletic powerhouse, domineering several CIF championships across multiple sports. Subsequent years saw continued athletic success.

The opening of the state-of-the-art Bedrosian Performing Arts Pavilion in 2007 elevated the performing arts to the national stage. Visual arts followed shortly thereafter with multiple regional and national awards.

In the area of academics, Oaks Christian has been a vanguard, starting first with its stellar high school offerings, and adding a model middle school program in 2009. Five years later Academy V for fifth grade students was launched

Additionally, the school has added five signature institutes: engineering, arts and innovation, global leadership, Bible and discipleship, and the newest, health science. Each institute provides specialized pathways for students to gain an advantage in those fields, be mentored and taught master classes by industry professionals, and have internship opportunities.

A crowning achievement was the expansion of the International Student Program with the opening of a modern residential dorm that welcomed 40 students in 2019 but now will house close to 100 international and domestic students. The dorm distinguishes Oaks Christian as one of the few Christian secondary schools nationwide to have both a day and residential boarding program.

Age-Based Cooking Classes for Children and Teens. A Montessori-Inspired Curriculum That Builds Practical Life Skills and Healthy Eating Habits. Every age is met where it is and given real responsibility to rise to. Select your child’s age range below to learn more.

888-291-8810 | 276 West Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360

Little Kitchen Academy (LKA), the premier Montessori-inspired cooking academy for children and teens ages 3 to 18, is opening its newest flagship location at The Oaks in November 2026. The new academy brings Conejo Valley families something they’ve been quietly searching for: a trusted partner in their child’s growth, where real-life skills, confidence and curiosity are built one class at a time.

At first glance, it looks like a beautifully designed working kitchen. Look closer, and something quieter and more remarkable is happening: young students preparing ingredients with a real knife, for dishes they’re cooking from scratch. No screens. No processed foods. No shortcuts. Just real food and real tools in the hands of students, as they build the kind of skills parents notice carrying into homework, dinner conversations and everyday family life.

“Our Montessori-inspired curriculum meets children where they are, empowering them to work independently and build confidence through meaningful, hands-on learning,” says Co-founder and President Felicity Curin.

The choice of opening at The Oaks is intentional. Under the stewardship of Stockdale Capital Partners, the property has been investing in family-centric programming and experience-driven concepts, making it a natural home for a brand built around community.

“Learning to cook is a foundational life skill that builds independence, confidence and healthy habits that last a lifetime,” adds Cofounder and CEO Brian Curin.

“The Oaks is a natural fit for our next flagship location — a destination deeply rooted in community, family connection and meaningful experiences. We’re excited to open in Thousand Oaks and to serve Conejo Valley families in a truly impactful way.”

More than a cooking school, each location is a hub where families connect over shared values: real food, real learning and a place at the table for every child. Since opening its first academy seven years ago, LKA has taught over 200,000 students across North America and has attracted families looking for an enrichment program that aligns with how they want their children to grow.

Thousand Oaks families can visit LittleKitchenAcademy.com and follow @lkathousandoaks on Instagram to learn more about monthly sessions, seasonal camps and private classes.
